About ICCFD

ICCFD is a leading international conference devoted to all innovative aspects of CFD, fundamental and applied. This biennial event began in the year 2000 with the merger of two important CFD conferences: the International Conference on Numerical Methods in Fluid Dynamics (ICNMFD), and the International Symposium on Computational Fluid Dynamics (ISCFD).

Early registration & Fugaku tour on Sunday afternoon

We would like to kindly inform you that an early registration desk will be set up on the first floor of RIKEN R-CCS on Sunday afternoon (July 14, 4:00 pm − 6:00 pm).

On that day, visitors will have an opportunity to join "Fugaku-tour" on the 6th floor of the same RIKEN R-CCS building. It is a freely visit to the supercomputer "Fugaku," which is recognized as one of the world's fastest supercomputers. We hope you will consider joining us for this unique experience.

RIKEN R-CCS is located on Port Island, the same island as the conference venue. To reach the RIKEN R-CCS, please get off at the nearest station of the Portliner "Keisan Kagaku Center" and walk 5 minutes from the station. Please be sure to take the Portliner bound for Kobe Airport (the one bound for "Kita Futo" does not go to the "Keisan Kagaku Center" station).
For more details, please see Access map to RIKEN R-CCS

Access to the venue

To reach the conference venue "Kobe International Conference Center," please get off at Shimin-Hiroba Station on the Port Liner.

Guidelines for Papers and Presentations

Submissions to the conference proceedings

Submission to the conference proceedings is mandatory. Submission can be in the form of full papers, extended abstracts or oral presentation slides. Please note that the conference proceedings will exclusively be available in a digital format; no physical copies will be issued.

They must be submitted via the Confit online submission system , no later than July 3, 2024 . Only files in pdf format, in A4 portrait format with a maximum file size of 10 MB and no more than 25 pages will be received. The paper number will be automatically appended to your submission file, so there is no need to enter it.

Following a thorough review process, selected full length papers will be considered for publication in a special issue of Computers and Fluids. The following templates must be used for submissions of full papers:

Instructions for Oral Presentations

Each talk in the conference will have a half-hour slot, comprising a 20-to-25 minute talk followed by a 5-to-10 minute question and answer session. Session chairs will indicate to you if/when you are running short on time during your talk.

The conference will NOT provide computers for presentations. Speakers are kindly requested to bring and use their own laptop.

Each room will be equipped with an LCD projector with an HDMI connector and a screen with a 16:9 aspect ratio. Please test your laptop with the projector in your session room during the coffee break before your presentation.

Instructions for Poster Presentations

Please prepare a printed poster in A0 size in portrait format (118.9 cm height × 84.1 cm width).

Each poster will be displayed on a panel with accompanying pins throughout the conference. By Thursday (July 18), please display your poster on the panel with your poster number. The presence of authors at their posters will be required for the Thursday evening session (16:30-18:30)

Please be sure to take your poster home after the conference.

There is no difference for Oral and Poster presentation except for presentation style, thus submission to the conference proceedings is mandatory for poster presentation as well.

Abstract Submissions

The abstract submission was closed.

The abstract submission was closed on January 29th. Thank you for submitting your abstract!

ICCFD expects active research exchange at the conference, and welcomes participation from many research teams. Thus, three or more submissions from the same research group may affect its acceptance.

About Kobe City

Kobe is the capital of Hyogo Prefecture with its population of about 1.53 million, designated by government as one of twenty major cities in Japan. Located between the sea and the Rokko mountain range, Kobe is also considered one of Japan's most attractive cities for both domestic and international tourists. Kobe has also been an important port city for many centuries, and was among the first to be opened to foreign trade in the 19th century. In 1995, Kobe was hit by the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake. Today the city has recovered completely from the disaster, and few signs of the terrible event remain. Kobe is home to many attractions: Arima Onsen, one of the oldest Hot Springs in Japan; The "ten-million-dollar night view" from the top of Mt. Rokko; Akashi Kaikyo Bridge, the longest suspension bridge in the world; Kobe beef, the world-famous melt-in- your-mouth beef; Sake breweries, where you can see how sake is produced. Kobe is close to three airports in the Kansai area (Kansai International Airport, Osaka International Airport, and Kobe Airport) and has a Shinkansen station (Shin-Kobe), offering excellent access, from both international and domestic locations.

Kobe International Conference Center

  • It is located at the center of Port Island, an artificial island, 10 minutes from the center of Kobe (Sannomiya).
  • This center has the Main Hall, with a capacity of 692 people, and the prestigious International Conference Room, with a capacity of 360 (in a theater-style layout) where UN and inter-governmental conferences have been held.
  • Its Reception Hall has removable partitions to broaden the usage of the adjacent International Conference Room. There is a total of 21 medium to small meeting rooms, including one with a maximum capacity of 200 people. Each floor has a spacious lounge and lobby and can be reserved for exclusive use in exhibitions, poster sessions, etc.

Award

Young CFD Investigator Award

The award is the contribution from the committee members under the agreement of committee members of "International Nobeyama Workshop in honor of Prof. Kunio Kuwahara" that was held several years ago for his remarkable contribution to CFD and international collaborations.

Professor Kunio Kuwahara undertook pioneering numerical studies on the vortex method in the 1970s. From then to the early nineties, he developed numerical analyses on a variety of three-dimensional unsteady phenomena of incompressible and compressible fluid flows and/or complex fluid flows using his own supercomputers with academic and industrial co-workers and members of his private research institute, ICFD in Tokyo. For his contributions to CFD, Professor Kuwahara received Awards from the Japan Society of Automobile Engineers and the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers in 1992, the Computational Mechanics Achievement Award from the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers in 1993, and the Max Planck Research Award in 1993. He received the Computational Mechanics Award from the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers again in 2008. Professor Kuwahara also supported the development of the Japan Society of Fluid Mechanics, whose office is located in the same building as ICFD. Professor Kunio Kuwahara passed away on 15 September 2008, at the age of 66.

Conditions for Applications:

  • Candidates shall be 35 years old or younger.
  • Selection is based on both the quality of the paper and the presentation. Therefore a presentation of the paper by the candidate is required.
  • Recipient is selected by the ICCFD executive board members from the presenting applicants.
  • The award will be presented during the conference banquet on Thursday evening.
  • A Plaque and a grant of $300* will be presented to the award recipient in the conference banquet.
